HEPA Z-Series: Sizing for a 5000 CFM Cleanroom Retrofit

This article walks through the full sizing process for a pharmaceutical packaging line that required ISO Class 5 air quality. It covers pressure drop calculations, pre-filter selection, and how the Z-Series array was configured to fit within a 2.4-meter ceiling plenum. The piece includes real airflow readings from the first week of operation and explains why the differential pressure sensors triggered a pre-filter change earlier than expected.

Hermetic Seal HSS-900: Leak Rate Validation After 90 Days

After three months of continuous operation in a hazardous particulate containment zone, the HSS-900 system was tested for seal integrity. This article presents the leakage data at 50 Pa and 100 Pa differential pressure, compares the results against the initial factory certification, and discusses the impact of thermal cycling on gasket compression. It also covers the self-diagnostic cycle logs and one field adjustment that improved seal repeatability.

AQM-400 vs. Manual Sampling: A Three-Week Comparison

This article compares real-time data from the AQM-400 monitor against manual gravimetric samples collected over 21 days in a metal fabrication facility. It highlights discrepancies in PM2.5 readings during peak production hours, explains how the monitor's 10-second sampling interval captured transient spikes that manual methods missed, and describes the steps taken to calibrate the TVOC sensor after an unexpected solvent release. The conclusion offers practical recommendations for facilities considering automated monitoring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers about our HEPA filtration arrays, hermetic sealing systems, and air quality monitors for heavy manufacturing environments.

What ISO class does the HEPA Z-Series achieve?

The Z-Series Filtration Array is designed to meet ISO Class 5 or better air quality standards when installed with the recommended pre-filter and H14 main stage. Actual performance depends on ductwork integrity and room pressurization.

How often does the HSS-900 run its self-diagnostic cycle?

The Hermetic Seal System HSS-900 automatically tests seal integrity every 24 hours. The cycle takes roughly 90 seconds and logs results to the building management system via Modbus RTU.

Can the AQM-400 trigger HVAC adjustments automatically?

Yes. The AQM-400 supports configurable alarm thresholds that can trigger HVAC adjustments or containment protocols through relay outputs or network commands. Integration with the HEPA Z-Series for closed-loop filtration control is optional.

What is the maximum airflow per Z-Series module?

Each module handles up to 5000 CFM. The array scales by adding modules, with a footprint of 1.2 square meters per unit. For airflows above 5000 CFM, we recommend a parallel configuration with a balancing manifold.

Does the HSS-900 fit existing wall penetrations?

Yes. The HSS-900 is available in custom dimensions up to 4 meters wide and can be retrofitted into existing wall or ceiling penetrations. A site survey is required to confirm clearances and structural load capacity.

What particulate sizes does the AQM-400 measure?

The AQM-400 tracks PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 in real time, with a measurement range of 0–1000 µg/m³. It also monitors TVOC, CO2, temperature, and humidity. The sensor samples every 10 seconds and transmits data via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

Definitions & Disclaimers

Clarifications and conditions that remove ambiguous interpretations of our product specifications and performance claims.

01

HEPA filtration efficiency

All HEPA Z-Series arrays are tested at the factory using DEHS aerosol per EN 1822:2019. Reported efficiency of ≥99.97% at 0.3 µm applies to the main H14 stage only, measured at nominal airflow. Pre-filter and post-filter stages do not carry the same rating.

Product specification
02

Hermetic seal leakage rate

The HSS-900 leakage rate of <0.01% at 50 Pa differential pressure is measured under laboratory conditions with a static pressure test. Field performance may vary depending on wall construction, mounting surface flatness, and ambient temperature. Regular seal integrity tests are required to maintain the rating.

Performance condition
03

Air quality monitor accuracy

AQM-400 particulate measurements are calibrated against a reference gravimetric sampler. Accuracy is ±10% for PM2.5 and PM10 in the range 10–500 µg/m³. Readings outside this range or under high humidity (>85% RH) may deviate. TVOC readings are indicative and not intended for regulatory compliance.

Measurement disclaimer
04

Positive-pressure ventilation

Positive-pressure manifold systems are designed to maintain a minimum of 15 Pa above ambient in the protected zone. This assumes all doors and penetrations are sealed. The system does not compensate for open doors, damaged gaskets, or unsealed cable trays. Regular pressure differential logging is recommended.

Operational requirement
05

Biosecurity parameters

Environmental biosecurity parameters (temperature, humidity, particulate count, differential pressure) are defined per client-specific protocol. Roachco systems provide monitoring and control within the specified ranges but do not guarantee sterility or pathogen elimination. HEPA filtration reduces airborne particulates but does not replace surface decontamination procedures.

Scope limitation
06

Integration with existing systems

Modbus RTU integration is supported for the HSS-900 and AQM-400. Compatibility depends on the building management system version and configuration. Roachco provides a standard register map and test script. Custom protocol adaptation is available as a separate engineering service and is not included in the base product price.
